As the assembly polls are knocking the doors of WB before that a big announcement has been announced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee under which their government will distribute 9.5 lakhs tablets among students of higher secondary so that they can attend their online classes without any problem. West Bengal Free Tablet Scheme will be distributed to each student of the state who is studying in state-run and aided higher secondary school. West Bengal Free Tablet Scheme
While addressing the media Ms Banerjee said, that there are around 14000 higher secondary schools in the state which is government and government-aided which also includes 636 madrasas in which approximately 9.5 lakhs students are taking their higher secondary education and most of them are deprived of online classes due to the non-availability of smartphone or computer.
As of now, West Bengal Free Tablet Scheme has only been announced by the officials, but they had not released any official notification and other processes about the scheme. But the state government will try its best to issue such tablets as soon as possible because there are some criteria which they need to fulfil and once it will be completed only then such things can be distributed.

As we all know that due to COVID 19 all schools are yet to open completely and in the current situation on-campus classes are not easy to hold for the schools, therefore, students are resort to online classes for their study since lockdown imposed in the country. But there are some students in the state, who came from the underprivileged category and are facing so many challenges during the online classes because they don’t have any smartphone, computer, and any other facility to attend such online classes which have been conducted by the school.
So to fill this digital void WB government came up with a scheme in which they are going to distribute 9.5 lakhs tablet free of cost and by doing this they aimed to provide equal opportunity to all students so that they can attend their online classes without any issue and such tablets can also be used for further studies.

Eligibility for WB Free tablet scheme
Only such candidates are eligible for the scheme that will fulfill the following eligibility criteria which was given as: –
- Students must be studying in a Government or government-aided school or madrasas.
- Students appearing in higher secondary school are eligible for the scheme.
- The applicant should be a resident of West Bengal.
- Their family annual income should be less than Rs. 2 lakhs (including all sources).
- Should have passed all their previous examination.

How one can apply for WB free tablet scheme?
This scheme is only for the students, who are studying in government and government-aided schools, so only such students are eligible for the scheme. As of now, the scheme has only been announced, and the actual details for the same are yet to be announced which will carry all the details like what will be the procedure of the application, documents required for it, and other details so that they can verify student’s eligibility.
